A charging regulator in an off-grid PV system is a device necessary to ensure correct operation of the whole system. It connects PV panels, the battery and receivers.
A charging regulator (B) ensures that such parameters as current and voltage on a PV panel output (A) are transformed in such a manner that a battery (C) is charged with correct current and voltage. The lack of a regulator in such systems would result in significant decrease in battery lifetime and its total damage (frequent charging of a battery directly from PV panels results in its early failure!). Moreover, a regulator ensures that the energy transferred from loads (E) to a battery is used rationally. It means that, when a battery is discharged below a safe level, the regulator disconnects loads to avoid excessive battery discharge and decreasing its lifetime.
